09/24/2012 - September´s news from Dudley

xabec-holand

After nearly a month of their “Dudley adventure”, Sergio Borrero and Enrique Belenguer seem to be elated with their experience, and they´ve told us to encourage everyone in Xabec to take the same chance.
They´re living in the Dudley College residence for foreign students, only few minutes walk to the School, sharing the day to day house life with some mates from all over the World.
So as we can see how they manage, they´ve shared a dropbox file and downloaded some pictures. It is funny to see them cooking a “tortilla de patatas” for the flat-mates enjoyement. They are in a way transforming a bit some of their collegues habits: they have persuaded the rest of residents to lead a more “familiar-like” life in the house –“they are rather shy…” says Sergio in a Whatsapp-, getting together to have lunch or dinner in the living room, instead of the lonlines of their rooms. Big hand for them!
They are doing their best to speak and understand English, for what they have been offered the teacher´s help and support.

So, great and hopeful start for our friends in Dudley!

03/16/2012 - Xabec visit the Markiezaat College - Holand

xabec-holand

Once again Xabec rised to the challenge to widen our minds and our goals in a whole. This time we went to Holand to visit Markiezaat College, an outstanding Training School based in the city of Bergen op Zoom, close to the South border of Holand.

The “semana fallera” provided us with the opportunity, not only to have a great time getting to know all the Markiezaat workshops and training rooms, but also to make a pleasant tour around Antwerpen (at a time part of the Spanish Empire) and Brussels, which claims to be one of the core centres of the European Community.

No doubt there were many things and aspects we enjoyed very much at Markiezaat College. All of us got really excited with everything we saw there, and felt very thankful for the way we were welcomed by all the staff. But, for all those enriching things –among them we don´t forget the visit to Philip Morris Int. Facilities-, as Toni explained in the last official meeting, there is one particular matter that will make that visit really unforgetable for us as a teachers: the student´s performance. We all agreed to put it this way: “we fell in love with them”. The way they managed to conduct the presentations transmitted something like “maturity” and, more over, made us feel as a succesful students who found themselves surprised to achieve the end of new tasks –such as designing a three dimensión “wistle” or setting a “flow-code”- as if we had been trained for that purpose for ages. And on top of that, they made it all on a polite style, and speaking a fluent English. That´s food for thought.

There´s Little space in the paper to convey every single feeling or learning experience we´ve had in those days. Not even the host of pictures we took could do so. But we will always save some space in ourselves to remember, and to learn.

In the days to come, when we see or hear about Holand, all of us will probably bring to the fore these good memories and smile broadly as for a picture, and will “SAY CHEESE!!”
